autoloze zondag

Vandaag autoloze zondag in 't stad. Zalig!

Shenzhou 7

In a couple of days China will launch its third manned space mission. The Shenzhou 7 spacecraft will carry three astronauts, one of them will make China's first spacewalk.

Part of the Shenzhou spacecraft (the 8m3 orbital module) will stay in orbit around planet Earth. The Chinese have plans to send two unmanned spacecrafts (Shenzhou 8 and Shenzhou 9) up there to dock with the Shenzhou 7 orbital module. This would give them a basic space station. They don't give an exact date, but if all goes well i think that within a year (or two) we will see three Chinese astronauts docking the Shenzhou 10 to their space station.

When talking about this, people always react "Why don't they join the International efforts of the ISS?" The answer is simple, the USA does not allow China to be part of the 'International Space Station'.

Anyway, my advice is to watch them! The Chinese have realistic and exciting plans. They already have a spacecraft orbiting the moon, and the Shenzhou spacecraft are designed for trips to the moon. All they need now is a bigger rocket.

You can find some pictures of Shenzhou 7 being transported to the launch site here at xinhua.

Linux Training : About NAT

I created a humble little chapter that serves as an introduction to iptables today. Also corrected minor errors in the router chapter. Both chapters are available online (12 page pdf) for your review.

The goal is to provide students (that have knowledge about sniffing, tcp, ip, arp, icmp,...) a practical introduction to setting up a router, packet filter, nat, snat and dnat on Linux with iptables.

10. Routers
10.1. terminology
10.1.1. router or firewall

11.3.3. SNAT example setup
11.3.4. IP masquerading
11.3.5. DNAT (Destination NAT)

Linux Training : About routers

I made a draft chapter about router terminology and setting up Linux for packet forwarding.

Please review it (five pages pdf). The students already have an understanding of tcp/ip, arp. mac, addressing and ports, ...
The next chapter is about iptables (port forwarding, nat, ...)

Thanks again for all the corrections on Linux Fundamentals, i will update it soon.

bash history question

Typing !string executes the last command that starts with 'string'. But how do you do that when there is a space in your command line ?

paul@laika:~$ history | grep dsl | tail -5
4841 ssh dsl@172.16.122.129
4847 ssh dsl@172.16.122.129
4923 ssh dsl@172.16.122.129
4950 ssh dsl@172.16.122.129
4999 history | grep dsl | tail -5
paul@laika:~$ !'ssh dsl'
bash: !'ssh: event not found
paul@laika:~$ !"ssh dsl"
bash: !"ssh: event not found
paul@laika:~$ !ssh\ dsl
bash: !ssh\: event not found
paul@laika:~$ "!ssh dsl"
"ssh 192.168.1.38 dsl"
bash: ssh 192.168.1.38 dsl: command not found
paul@laika:~$

I want to recall the last ssh connection, based on the username i used...

EDIT: the answer is !?ssh dsl?

zo zo zo zinloos

- mijn cursus verbeteren (zodat iedereen over beter gratis informatie beschikt)
- billy deftig reviewen
